USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77) Anchors in Stokes Bay

A trip to Stokes Bay Road to capture some images of USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77) at anchor from the shore before heading off to Gunwharf Quay in Portsmouth for a boat trip out to the carrier to capture some close up images. Nice to see a near full deck with a variety of aircraft to be seen. A selection of F/A-18E's, EA-18G's, E-2C's, MH-60's and C-2A's.

A bit of a bumpy boat ride out to the carrier as the sea was a bit rough at times. But well worth the trip out. My first trip on a boat in many years and my first time seeing an aircraft carrier up close.

USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77) is the tenth and final Nimitz-class supercarrier of the United States Navy.[1] She is named for the 41st President of the United States and former Director of Central Intelligence George H. W. Bush, who was a naval aviator during World War II. Bush's callsign is Avenger, after the TBM Avenger aircraft flown by then-Lieutenant George H.W. Bush in World War II. Construction began in 2003[6] at the Northrop Grumman Newport News shipyard's Dry Dock 12, the largest in the western hemisphere. She was completed in 2009 at a cost of $6.2 billion and her home port is Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia.
